Participate in the National Read Across America event!

On Wednesday, March 1 we will be participating in the National Read Across America event! From 9 am to 11 am, Canyon Oaks will be welcoming guest readers on our campus to share their favorite story. Students are being asked to participate by either dressing as if they were their favorite children’s book character or wearing their favorite reading pajamas. Students will also be allowed to bring a stuffed animal to read to that day.

As a guideline for dressing as their favorite book character, students should be able to state the book the character is from, the author of the book, and their character’s name.  Students are not allowed to bring props that would be considered zero-tolerance items (i.e. weapons, swords, plastic knives, etc...).

To help you in your pursuit of the right book, here is a brief list of books that you can reference for ideas. Of course, any of the fairy tale books would work as well!

1). The Cat in the Hat
2). Pete the Cat
3). Madeline
4). Harry Potter
5). The Hobbit
6). Where the Wild Things Are
7). Little Red Riding Hood
8). Pippi Longstocking

9). A Bad Case of Stripes

10). One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

11). Pinkalicious

12). Junie B. Jones

13). The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

14). Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

15). Curious George

16). The Hungry Caterpillar

The purpose of this day is to share the love for reading that Dr. Seuss exhibited throughout his lifetime. Students are encouraged to be lifelong readers, and we wish to support this goal by honoring Dr. Seuss on this day.

Thank you for your support and participation in making this day fun! As Dr. Seuss would say, “The more you read, the more you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
